![]() It's not the greatest of story telling or anything, but I can't help but appreciate the effort the game put into its presentation and trying to bring the spirit of the anime into videogame form. Midway through the game, you are taken to modern times to play in a small card tournament where many characters from the anime make an appearance. It's an adventure of Atem/ Yami during Egyptian times, which is portrayed as a dream Yugi is having. If you watched the anime or read the manga when it first started, you will completely appreciate the background this game puts up for the series. So what's the appeal of this game? Well pure fan service to put it simply. All this to say, don't expect the OCG or TCG fundamentals strategies to apply here save for some fundamentals like drawing your staple card asap is preferable. Therein comes the RPG aspects and the weird rules they implemented concerning "guardian stars". Blue Eyes White Dragon costs the maximum amount of star chips or whatever the currency is. And opponents can't really do anything against that strategy except hope to draw a Raigeki or Black Hole(which are unlimited here) So yeah, strategy wise you can brute force your way through matches IF you have the cards. So if you have the level 10 White Eyes Ultimate Dragon with its 4500 attack points in your hand, well then just summon it. You can summon any level monster from your hand once per turn. So first off, the most remarkable difference is that you don't need to sacrifice monsters to summon level 5+ ones. Those games were inspired by the real life game and cards but changed the rules to have a more RPG like progression. ![]() This isn't battle simulator type game, but rather in the Duel Monsters line of games. It's always interesting to go back to early Yu-Gi-Oh and see what the creators were experimenting with game wise. 60% PlayStationAmazing music, and the presentation is quite good.
